Tuitions
On the request of the parents, tuitions in Math and English were started in August 2016. Since Jan 2019 Vijay has also joined to take Science and Math for children from Class 9 – 12. During the lockdown, the library became an educational hub catering to the needs of online and in person education with an average of 100-110 of kids Class 4 to 12 attending the library in batches.
Subsequently, the library engaged two young girls from the area to assist with the younger children. So now tuitions are conducted three days a week in 3 groups from Classes 2 – 12 with the remaining days of the week dedicated to other library activities like reading, indoor & outdoor games etc.
Computer Literacy Classes & Digital learning
Since Sept 2017, the library runs a a computer laboratory that presently has 7 thin client systems & 23 tablets. The children and youth have become adept at handling computers. Young girls and women from Seem and nearby villages have also started making use of this facility. The tablets are used extensively by the older children for their studies and research and by the toddlers, for learning math, english & reasoning from available apps and software.
Workshops & Interactions
Workshops in science, writing, theatre & dance, music, crafts are a regular feature. Dedicated resource persons are roped in to conduct these from time to time. An art-based workshop is currently in progress since Feb 2024.
Many people visit the library, interact with the children and often conduct short sessions in their fields of expertise. In the 9 years of its operation, almost 150 people have visited the library and conducted different sessions with the children. These help the kids gain exposure to numerous skill-sets and they have gained a lot of self-confidence.
Taekwondo & Yoga
Since Oct 2023 regular training in Taekwondo and Yoga has been started. Every Sunday, Kamal, an expert trainer conducts sessions in a playground that has been developed adjacent to the library. The children also learn other games and a number of kids have been representing the district in school level games and events.
Celebration of festivals
An integral part of the interaction and exposure, is the celebration of festivals through the year. The kids gather at the library to meet and greet each other to celebrate the festival. Over the years it has become a community space for the celebration of Holi and other local events.
The Library also celebrates its ‘annual day’ in June every year with the children showcasing their talents in theatre and dance. The village community and other visitors grace the occasion.
Exposure visits and Field trips
These are conducted whenever possible in the form of adventure camps and interactions with other institutions. Over time, an exposure visit has become an annual feature, with children from Class 8 – 12 visiting different locations. The children have thus visited Agra (Mathura & Vrindavan), New Delhi, Dehradun (Rishikesh & Haridwar) and attended an Eco camp at Ramnagar.
Scholarships
The library provides financial assistance to children for their higher education and vocational training. As at the end of March 2025, four children are benefitting from this initiative that is funded by some dedicated funders.
Tree Plantation
During the monsoon season, tree plantation fdrives have been conducted with more than 200 trees planted till date.
Health & hygiene
With the help of partner organizations, the library conducts health, eye and dental camps periodically. It has also provided reusable sanitary napkins to the girls & women.
During the lockdown, the library provided ration packs to the community and was used by well wishers to provide medical assistance for monitoring health.
The library has over time become a hub for the Aanganwadi activities and their health awareness drives.
Vocational Training
In July 2020 on the request from some women, a sewing course was arranged and 18 women and girls graduated after a three month course. Since June 2021 they have formed a self help group called Khili Buransh Swayam Sahayata Samooh that independently produces and markets high end items like table linen, laptop sleeves etc.
Library Outreach
In order to reach out to more areas the assist the school children outreach programmes have been taken up.
With the help of Angilique Foundation, New Delhi, 5 libraries have been set in different schools in the area. In addition, whenever possible, visitors are encouraged to visit schools in the neighbouring villages to conduct workshops and interact with the students. In the past para teachers have been provided to village primary schools to help the children attending the library with their studies.
